Agents have finalised a significant deal in London’s Covent Garden neighbourhood, PrimeResi hears.
Savills and Tavistock Bow have confirmed the sale of a “trophy” duplex penthouse on Southampton Street, which went for above its £8m guide after sparking competing interest.
Measuring 3,000 sq ft, the high-spec, interior-designed apartment at The Beecham has three bedrooms and a large-scale open-plan reception space, along with a formal drawing room. Two private terraces overlook the famous Piazza.
The sale is the largest recorded in the West End district so far this year and “indicates that there is demand for best in class, well located trophy homes in the capital”, according to the firms.
Savills & Tavistock Bow acted as Joint-Sole Agents, with Tavistock Bow introducing the buyer.
Charles Cutting, co-head of sales Savills Mayfair: “It has been a pleasure to work with Tavistock Bow on the sale of Southampton Street on behalf of our client. Located in one of Covent Garden’s most desirable residential buildings, this is a high quality penthouse with a rarity factor as it has two private terraces overlooking the piazza, one of London’s most iconic landmarks.
“The property received significant competition before being sold over guide to the buyer, indicating that there is demand for best in class, well located trophy homes in the capital.”
Craig Simpson, Partner at Tavistock Bow: “We are extremely pleased to have introduced the British buyer to this property who came to us with a specific search for a home in Covent Garden. Apartments such as this so rarely come to the market and the buyer recognised that its sale presented a standout opportunity to acquire one of WC2’s trophy assets.
“Those that look to move here really buy into the lifestyle and access to theatres and restaurants in the West End and this buyer was no exception. Along with my colleague, Clara Bracey who was highly involved in this deal, the successful outcome required close collaboration between us and Charles to see this sale over the line.”
Other notable deals reported in the West End district so far this year have included three-bed apartments on Henrietta Street (£3.975mn), Great Queen Street (£4mn) and Monmouth Street (a package of two units that sold for £6.09mn).
