Seven Dials WC2
A rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful and historic residence on one of Covent Garden's most well loved streets. Forming the majority of a handsome Georgian Grade II listed building situated mid-way along Neal Street, the property features a private terrace with fantastic rooftop views.
Wonderful period details are in abundance throughout, including beautiful wood panelling and original timber floors, alongside modern features including RAKO programmable lighting and an integrated audio/visual system.
From the street entrance, stairs lead directly to the first floor where a bright dining room can be found, featuring original hardwood floors and a generous ceiling height, flooded with natural light. Adjacent is the modern high spec kitchen with ample storage space, stainless steel Gaggenau appliances including an American Style fridge/freezer, composite worktop and a characterful feature fireplace. The first floor is also served by a rather snazzy guest cloakroom.
Continue up the handsome wood panelled staircase to the second floor, where the well proportioned reception room offers a cosy space to escape the hustle & bustle of urban life, once again featuring original timber floors, further wood panelling and an integrated audio/visual system featuring a projector, screen and full surround sound via discreet speakers. Adjacent is the guest bedroom situated to the rear, with ample built-in wardrobes and yet another original fireplace.
Progress to the third floor, where a large master bedroom suite faces front, with extensive custom shelving and walnut veneered built-in wardrobes and space for a wall mounted TV, with it's own en-suite shower room featuring neutral tiling and modern fittings including a fully automated WC.
Across the landing (with extensive custom shoe storage) is the main bathroom, again with contemporary neutral tiling, modern fittings, a beautiful egg-style bath and once again fully automated WC.
Finally, to the top floor via the fully integrated wet-bar with wine fridge to the generously proportioned and fully-decked roof terrace. A space perfect for summer-time al-fresco entertaining, the terrace offers roof top views over Covent Garden towards the world famous Royal Opera House. Bathed in sunlight during the day, come evening and with the benefit of subtle lighting and the integrated sound system, the terrace transforms in to a cosy urban oasis to relax or entertain away from the buzzing streets of the West End below.
Neal Street takes it's name from Thomas Neale, the man responsible for developing Seven Dials and the surrounding area in the early 1690's. Neale's original vision was to attract affluent residents to compete with the already established Covent Garden, however much of its early history was filled with gin shops and ne'er-do-wells and the area was regarded as somewhat of a slum, even referenced by the great Charles Dickens himself.
In the early 1900's, much of Neal Street was developed as warehousing for the fruit and vegetables supplied to nearby Covent Garden Market, with many of the buildings designed in the Dutch style. These historic and beautiful buildings with their original warehouse doors, large windows, pulleys and unusual gables remain to this day and mixed with the original Georgian buildings of Neale's day give the street it's individual character.
Nowadays, Neal Street and Seven Dials has much more of a village feel closer to Neale's original vision. The eclectic mix of cobbled streets, historic architecture, independent boutiques, theatres, restaurants, coffee shops and of course the iconic sundial give the area a unique atmosphere within London's buzzing West End.
