It’s Easter time already (how did that come around so quickly?!) so once again we wanted to share our favourite places to pick up chocolate fix with a bit of a difference…
TB-HQ’s top spots for Easter Treats:
The confectioner frequented by Roald Dahl (and perhaps the inspiration for a certain factory?) is surely the place to start your Easter egg hunt. Located in the wonderful Princes Arcade just off Piccadilly, this chocolatier carries a Royal Warrant from her Majesty the Queen and has a selection of Easter goodies Mr. Wonka himself would’ve been proud of.
Hip chocolatier Paul A. Young has a cult following thanks to his mastery of chocolate alchemy, rest assured his egg shaped Easter creations are as much modern art as confectionary…
Located in a top spot in the heart of the Newburgh Quarter of Carnaby, this eclectic chocolaterie feels as close as we can imagine to stepping in to the real life Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The self styled ‘Makers of Joy’ have spent the past six weeks creating a breathtaking window display of three chocolate eggs depicting the ‘birth of the dragon’, made from over 100 kilos of chocolate and which, if you fancy hiding them around the house/garden for Sunday’s annual egg hunt would set you back a cool £25,000! (Yes, you read that correctly…). Those with shallower pockets may opt for the more modest box of five handmade hens eggs filled with praline & caramel at a mere £25.
For a more continental take on Easter, try Soho’s Lina Stores who have a fantastic selection of Italian easter treats including some rather fancy eggs, along with more traditional Italian Easter Cake.
For something a little off the wall, we love the sound of Fortnum’s ‘Chotch Egg’– think half scotch / half easter egg – venison, egg and dark chocolate – strangely alluring…
But the ultimate Easter treat has to be their Colossal Egg, 1.4kg’s of pure choco-heaven, 5 eggs of different flavoured chocolate nesting inside each other Russian doll style, bring it on…
