Our favourite Soho coffee spots

Favourite Soho coffee spots Soho
4 March, 2024 Food & Drink

Soho can lay claim to being London’s only true 24-hour neighbourhood. Sure, others may have late‑night bars or a corner shop that never sleeps, but can you grab a cup of quality coffee at 3 am?

Coffee aficionados are more than spoilt for choice in Soho and we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite spots whether you fancy a caffeine fix at dawn, dusk, day or night.

Flat White

It is not just the Sydneysiders who have a thing for a flat white despite originating here, although the Kiwis have a thing or two to say about this claim. This drink was created to satisfy those who felt a cappuccino was too frothy, and a cult following across cafes globally shortly followed.

No doubt this is the best place to get your flat white in Soho, but this is more than just a cafe, as @flatwhitesoho is at the heart of the local community. It is as much a sociable meeting place as a coffee-drinking spot. Keeping to their antipodean roots, unsurprisingly, they serve a pretty tasty smashed avo too.

Algerian Coffee Stores

For the serious coffee fanatics, head to the red facade of the @algerian_coffee_stores. Dating back to 1887, this shop is packed with all things coffee-related.

Selling coffee from every continent, house blends, flavoured, decaffeinated, raw coffee beans, plus coffee machines, spare parts, grinders, accessories, the list goes on, this is the place to buy it all. If that isn’t enough, you can sample their goods with a fresh crisp coffee to take away or to sip on while being immersed in this coffee utopia.

Bar Italia

Would there be Soho without @baritaliasoho? Realistically, there would be, but it would be a lot less fun. The Polledri family opened this iconic restaurant and coffee bar in 1949, and today it remains in the same family hands.

Open until the early hours, Bar Italia is a hang‑out for musicians, partygoers and anyone who is not ready to admit the end of the night is here, making it one of those Soho institutions. The coffee? Ah yes, well, given the Italian blood running through this joint, you can be assured that it is good and tastes even better when teamed with one of their paninis, the perfect nightcap.

My Place Soho

It is not only Cheers where everyone knows your name as @myplacesoho is a locals’ hangout set amongst the bustle of Berwick Street Market. Here coffee is served all day in many forms, from an americano to a cappuccino to an espresso, when in the evening, it magically turns into a Martini variety. Alongside the coffee, there is a menu that features breakfast, lunch and dinner options, although we must say the English Breakfast has saved us the morning after on more than one occasion!

Cafe Boheme

Soho is well‑versed in looking after its old‑timers. Take Cafe Boheme, a Parisian‑style cafe that is part of the fabric of this vibrant neighbourhood. It is inherently popular in part due to its prime pavement position on Old Compton Street. This was one of the late Garbo’s AKA The Queen of Soho (pictured below), favourite spots who frequented daily to immerse herself in the Soho bustle.

Soho House

When the sun plays ball, alfresco diners flock here, hoping to nab a pew outside to get their caffeine fix while watching Soho life pass on by. But inside, the chic interior is equally enthralling, and the welcoming ambience continues well into the early hours with live jazz performances in the evenings. Either way, inside or out, day or night, if you are on the hunt for a coffee with a side of buzz, Cafe Boheme is the place to be.
