Brunching in Bloomsbury

Brunch in Bloomsbury Bloomsbury
14 August, 2023 Food & Drink

Did someone say brunch? Eggs poached, fried, scrambled or spiced, pancakes dripping with fruit, a classic avo on toast or even just a perfectly made espresso teamed with a pastry, we are there with bells on.

We love nothing more than indulging in a leisurely mid‑morning meal, especially when time is on our side. Fortunately, Bloomsbury is brimming with options, so there is something for everyone, whatever tickles your tastebuds.

Riding House Cafe

We were quick to book a table when the @ridinghousecafes opened at @brunswicklondon, but it is so good that we keep heading back for more. The setting is stunning and relaxed with an interior we quite fancy at home, the weekend brunch menu is vast, and their Bloody Great Mary is spot on too!

We flip between ordering the deep dish pancakes and sweet potato fritters, although we have had food envy when spotting someone with a full‑on proper breakfast. There really is no excuse not to head here, especially with weekend brunching running until mid‑afternoon.

Redemption Roasters

@redemptionroasters, whose cafe on Lamb’s Conduit Street was their first in a series across London. What you may not realise while sitting at this minimal cafe is that this is the world’s first prison‑based coffee company.

Redemption Roasters

The Ministry of Justice approached founders, Ted and Max, to set up a roastery in prison to reduce reoffending rates. As well as coffee roasted behind bars, they provide barista training and assist in finding long‑term employment for their graduates once released. Now the brunch bit. The all‑day brunch menu features granola, chia pudding, mushrooms on toast, eggs and more, but the crowning glory has to be the chorizo and beans on sourdough topped with a fried egg.

Honey & Co.

Breakfast doesn’t have to be all pancakes and porridge, although we are big fans of those too, so if you are on the quest for a brunch with a bit of pazazz, then @honeyandco is the place. Here the breakfast menu packs a punch to reflect the cuisine of this Middle Eastern restaurant. Their infamous big breakfast is a sharing affair, perfect when dining with friends, with a selection of creamy hummus, tomato salad, fig loaf, and homemade jams followed with eggs any way you could dream of. Their Bureka of flaky pastry filled with a fried egg, garlic yoghurt and potato is breakfast all in one dish, and we wish we could resemble anything close to their Shakshuka at home!

Dalloway Terrace

Dalloway Terrace

An old wives tale says you should breakfast like a king, and we can verify that is what is in store when brunching at @dallowayterrace. The weekend menu is a serious affair featuring two or three courses, dependent on your appetite, enjoyed amongst the flowers of this tranquil terrace restaurant. Starters range from smoked haddock hash to a healthy banana split, followed by eggs, buttermilk pancakes, lobster rolls or croque monsieur. If your waistband is feeling up for it, then why not round off with a dessert of Basque cheesecake, dark chocolate fondant or crème brûlée? We are pretty sure you will leave feeling full for the rest of the day.

Burr & Co. London

If you are brunching on a Saturday and plan to make it the start of the weekend, head to @burrandco.ldn because you’ll quickly get in the mood with the help of their resident DJ, who spins some tunes.

Burr & Co. London

Situated in Kimpton Fitzroy London, this modern coffee shop fits seamlessly in its historic building and has some very attentive staff on hand. Dishing up pastries alongside all the brunch classics you’d expect, like eggs benedict, porridge and smoked salmon scrambled eggs, Burr & Co. also serves Caravan coffee and possibly the best Tumeric latte to have passed our lips.
