Soho is full of surprises

Vibrant Soho Soho

Soho is full of surprises. It’s the beating heart of London. The centre of all the exciting things that give the Capital its vibrancy. This square mile grid has such variety that makes it so appealing. From delicious food enjoyed on the go from Berwick Street Market to an established Soho resident like Bob Bob Ricard, a new concept at Kingly Court, or a fine dining experience in a Michelin-starred restaurant, Soho has it covered. The choice is vast and is visible across offerings throughout the whole neighbourhood from music hangouts, clothing brands, drinking holes and not forgetting homes.

What makes Soho is its rich history. Formerly a playground for King Henry VIII to hunt, who designated it a Royal Park, remnants of this era remain today, like the hidden blocked-up doorway in the kitchen at 13 D’Arblay Street.

This handsome Grade II listed townhouse has a tale or two to tell as a longstanding Soho resident who has watched the area evolve.

History

Built in 1741, before New Road, which later became Oxford Street, was developed, open fields were all that stood to its north.

This redundant kitchen doorway is reputed to have been the exit to these fields and the stable where the homeowner’s horse grazed and rested.

There is even evidence in the cellar of a well, a vital water source to spare the residents using the communal water pump on nearby Broadwick Street.

“A rarity given its enviable location”

Fast forward a few centuries, and the character and charm remain but are complemented with modern features to offer an exceptional home in the heart of London.

A rarity given its enviable location and impressive since much of the property in Soho was carved into smaller dwellings. Four bedrooms, three reception rooms, flexible living space, a private roof terrace, and a sauna and steam room, 13 D’Arblay Street has it all, even if popping out of the kitchen to feed the horses is no longer possible!

A stunning pitched roof with original beams features in the master bedroom, a vast bright kitchen with ample entertaining area, a wine cellar waiting to be filled, and an inviting roll top bath. Just like Soho, this home is full of surprises but do not just take our word for it, have a preview here.
